Vice President JD Vance did an interview with popular podcaster Theo Von, which was released on Saturday, but it was recorded on Thursday, as the big dust-up between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump was going down.

Vance spoke about the important campaign promises they were trying to pass in the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

He detailed more about the bill and then got into the dust-up.

Vance outlined how the bill stops a big tax increase on Americans by extending the Trump 2017 tax cuts. Also as he notes, it includes no tax on overtime, and no tax on tips, two of the promises that Trump made to the American people.

“I’m not saying he has to agree with the bill or agree with everything that I’m saying. I just think it’s a huge mistake for the world’s wealthiest man — I think one of the most transformational entrepreneurs ever, that’s Elon, – to be at war with the world’s most powerful man, who I think is doing more to save the country than anybody in my lifetime.”

Vance praised how Trump was almost killed during the Butler assassination attempt, pointing to his head to indicate how close Trump came to dying – and was “back on the horse the next day.”

He spoke about what they have done at the border and what they are doing on trade, “You gotta have some respect for that.”

Vance thought the battle wasn’t in the best interests of the country. He hoped Elon figured it out and “came back into the fold.” He said Trump had been getting a little “frustrated” at some of the criticisms from Elon. Vance said he thought Trump had been restrained because Trump doesn’t think he has to be in a “blood feud” with Elon Musk. He believed if “Elon chilled out a little bit, everything would be fine.”

Vance addressed the Jeffrey Epstein tweet from Elon, which he was just informed of by Von when the show was filmed. He completely shot down that there could be any wrongdoing by Trump.

Warning for graphic language:

“Absolutely NOT. Donald Trump didn’t do anything wrong with Jeffrey Epstein,” Vance declared. “Whatever the Democrats and the media says about him is total B.S.”

Vance explained he was the V.P., he is loyal to Trump. He thought Musk had done a great thing with DOGE,
“I’m always going to be loyal to the president. I hope that eventually, Elon kind of comes back into the fold. Maybe that’s not possible because he’s gone so nuclear, but I hope it is.”

Vance said he thought Elon was “new to politics” and his businesses were under attack. He thought part of it was that Elon had “suffered a lot” for being involved. He thought it was a “huge mistake” for Elon to go after Trump like that, that it would be “bad for the country” and not good for Elon either.

That was Thursday. Now it’s Saturday, and it’s still unclear what the outcome may be. So we shall see.

Vance outlined how much good was being done with DOGE and some of the crazy things they found, “The amount of grift was off the charts…but there’s still a lot more we can find.” He revealed that when they looked at the humanitarian aid, Secretary of State Marco Rubio estimated that only about 12 cents of every dollar was making it to the target of the aid.

He also confirmed that Elon had been working for free.

Vance also conveyed what he thought his role was regarding the president. This is the best, simple assessment of what a V.P/ should be.

“It is my job, obviously, to provide the President honest counsel,” he said, noting it wasn’t his job to be a “doormat.” He explained that Trump speaks to everyone and gets counsel from many, which he thought was “why he’s in touch with normal people.” He even mentioned how Trump asked workers in Mar-a-Lago or the White House for their opinions on issues.

“But when the president makes a decision, he’s the general. And when the general makes a decision, everyone has got to go and execute that order.”
