FBI Director Kash Patel’s conversation with podcaster Joe Rogan, which was released on Friday, is yielding all kinds of interesting information. The latest? The FBI Director confirmed that the FBI has found and is in possession of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s COVID-era phones, “electronic devices,” and hard drives.

This could be, as someone once said, a big freakin’ deal. But will it be?
Here’s the conversation:
FBI Director Kash Patel: I mean we just had a great breakthrough this week on (Dr.) Fauci. So, Senator Rand Paul, Senator Kennedy, and… I hate naming names because I always forget people, are doing a great job with us on COVID origins, and we’ve got multiple investigations open on that. But they had always been looking for, uh, Fauci’s original phone, or not original, but phones and devices he used while he was, Fauci, back in Trump One during COVID. And nobody had found it [sic]. Till two days ago.
Joe Rogan: Really?
Director Patel: Yeah. Now, look, your audience, and everybody listening to is not, it shouldn’t jump to the conclusion, everything’s in there. We’ll look at it, we’ll pull it, we’ll rip it, as we say, and maybe it’s deleted. Maybe it’s not. But at least we found it. And at least now we can tell the American people we’ve been looking, because it is of public importance to figure out, did that guy lie? Did he intentionally mislead the world, and cause countless deaths? We owe those answers to the American people. And the best evidence ever, is always the people’s evidence who created it. And so now we’re gonna go and exploit those hard drives. But I think a victory for the American people that we broke with Congress is that we did find it, we’re not done, we’re still looking, and we’re on the case.

The big question on everybody’s mind is this: What now?

I’m a little concerned that the answer is going to be, “Not much.”
Look, it’s great that the Trump Mark II DoJ and FBI are still digging on this, and I hope beyond hope that they find something actionable. If there were shenanigans around COVID-actual malfeasance as opposed to simple incompetence, people need to be held accountable. Here’s the thing: Dr. Anthony Fauci may be many things, but stupid isn’t one of them. It seems unlikely he’d turn over his government-issued electronics without removing incriminating or otherwise troublesome information, including to the point of involving someone knowledgeable in removing all vestiges of such information. It’s a certainty that there are people like that out there; years ago I was acquainted with an FBI computer forensics guy (sadly I’ve lost touch with him over the years) and he said there are any number of such people around, and they were good enough to erase stuff to the point where he couldn’t find it.
It seems unlikely that Fauci left any kind of electronic trail.

Now, I’m more skeptical and less optimistic about such things than a lot of people. And we should also remember, there is such a thing as the arrogance of power, which Dr. Fauci sure seems to possess and then some; he may have simply blown that notion off, handed in his devices, and thought no more of it.
Maybe he thought Kamala Harris would win the 2024 election, and he’d be home free.
It all remains to be seen, and it will probably take longer than we might expect; we won’t learn what, if anything, was on those devices tomorrow, or the next day.
But the FBI has the phones and hard drives. In that, they’ve already done more than the Biden-era DoJ and FBI ever dreamed of. Finding these devices is good news for the American taxpayers, and that is a natural-born fact.
