The British are coming, and this time, it might be for the better.
The U.K. is becoming inhospitable to free speech, and in various ways, to British people themselves. As you’ve likely seen, citizens are being arrested for simply posting memes or stating the truth about things like the immigration problem online. British politicians thump their chest proudly as they punish their own citizens for speaking out in defense of their own country, claiming they’re cracking down on hate.

Yet, these people are right. They’re losing their country, and their politicians and ruling class allow this to happen with the utmost confidence that they’re doing something truly good.
This means that the persecution of British people’s human rights is real. Free speech is a basic human right, and the British people are being criminally prosecuted, arrested, and investigated over speech that just has to hurt someone’s feelings, no matter if that speech is political, religious, or even satirical.
Enter Winston Marshall.
The former banjoist for the widely popular band “Mumford and Sons” turned freedom-oriented podcaster appeared at the White House press briefing, where he was able to ask Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt a very interesting question: Would Trump allow the British people asylum?
Marshall told Leavitt that around a quarter of a million people have been “issued non-crime hate incidents” and that there are people in prison for reposting memes, as well as extensive sentences for social media posts.
“Would the Trump administration consider asylum for British citizens in such a situation?” asked Marshall.
Leavitt said she’d not heard that idea spoken aloud and never spoke to Trump about it, but she “certainly can” and told Marshall that she’d “talk to our national security team and see if that’s something the administration would entertain.”

That’s not a “no.”

It’s a fun thought to entertain, but if Trump said “yes” to this, there would be some big diplomatic fallout. It wouldn’t be free-speech minded Brits making their way here, it would be a slap in the face to the U.K. government and a massive rebuke to its authoritarian nature. This would be, ultimately, a public accusation of a major ally of doing something against human rights.
Not that we’d be wrong to do so, but the British government wouldn’t take it lightly. It’s likely that other Western nations would pick sides, and that could lead to more attempts at punishing American companies with speech laws. They are already attempting to do this, and the White House is threatening to come down on foreign Western governments for attempting to control American business.

Meanwhile, it’s likely that we wouldn’t see a massive flood of Brits hit our shores, but it would be enough to make a statement. I can imagine you’d see a few groups come here, such as commentators and satirists, Christian groups, and a number of freedom-oriented people. The legacy media likely wouldn’t cover it much, but the number would be enough to indicate that a real fear has permeated the British people.

But this all hinges on whether President Trump says he’d allow it to happen. Again, this would come with international headaches from major allies whom we’re already at odds with over free speech issues. Trump may choose to tell the British to work it out or make his own statement by letting them come here.
